Course Overview

Recent studies indicate that Emotional Intelligence (EI) influences behavior and is key to self-management and effective communication. Emotional competence refers to the personal and social skills that define how effectively individuals perceive, understand, reason with and manage their own and others’ emotions and feelings. There is considerable research suggesting that a person’s ability to perceive, identify, and manage emotion provides the basis for the kinds of social and emotional communications that are important for being successful in any job, for the key element of success in the business world is considered as theeffective communication and understanding between staff. For example, research has found that the primary causes of derailment in management careers involves deficits in emotional competence and communication. 

In order to achieve this success, acquiring the necessary skills of emotional intelligence is essential to improve t communication skills which will support the achievement of personal and organizational goals. This course will also explore the importance of applying emotional intelligence and effective communication skills in the workplace by recognizing the uses for emotional intelligence in the workplace, importance of direct clear communication in managing conflict and reducing stress, use emotional intelligence to increase team effectiveness, and participate in and lead emotionally intelligent teams. Learners will also identify how verbal signals, nonverbal behavior, and emotional intelligence can help make or break their communications.
